How automatic and manual trip tracking works in Magica.

How do I manually start tracking a trip?

From the Dashboard tap the "ON" button to start recording GPS, speed and distance in real time. When you arrive, tap "Stop Trip" (or let it end automatically when you leave the vehicle): the trip is saved with all data collected.

The full flow:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap the "ON" shaped button
  2. Magica starts recording GPS location, speed and distance in real time
  3. During the trip you can see live data on screen or on the Lock Screen (Live Activity)
  4. When you arrive at your destination, tap "Stop Trip" or wait for it to end automatically when you exit the vehicle.
  5. The trip is automatically saved with all collected data

How does automatic trip tracking work?

Magica monitors your phone's motion sensors and starts tracking on its own when it detects driving movement. When you stop for a configurable period (default 5 minutes), the trip closes automatically. Enable it in Settings > Tracking.

The setup steps:

  1. Enable automatic tracking in Settings > Tracking
  2. Magica monitors the device's motion sensors
  3. When it detects movement consistent with driving, tracking starts automatically
  4. When you stop for a configurable period (default 5 minutes), the trip closes automatically
ℹ️Automatic tracking uses more battery than manual tracking, as GPS stays active in the background.

How do I add a forgotten trip after the fact?

From the Dashboard open "Your Trips", tap the "+" button in the top right, fill in the fields and save. Magica will compute distance and consumption from the data you enter.

The steps:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap the "Your Trips" button and go to the Trips section
  2. Tap the "+" button in the top right
  3. Fill in all the fields
  4. Save the trip

How do I import trips from CSV or a backup?

You can import trips two ways: from a CSV file ("Your Trips" > "..." > "Import a trip") with custom field mapping, or by restoring a full backup from Vehicle Detail > "..." > "Manage backup" > "Import a backup".

The options:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap the "Your Trips" button and go to the Trips section
  2. Tap the "..." button in the top right
  3. Select "Import a trip" and choose the CSV file to import
  4. For backup, go to the vehicle detail from the dashboard instead
  5. Tap the "..." button in the top right
  6. Select "Manage backup"
  7. On the screen, scroll down and tap "Import a backup"

How do I use a Bluetooth BLE device for automatic tracking?

By associating a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device with your vehicle, Magica starts tracking automatically when the device is nearby. Set "Bluetooth BLE" as the mode in Account > App settings and tracking > Trip tracking and pick the device from the scan.

Setup steps:

  1. Go to Account > App settings and tracking > Trip tracking
  2. Select "Bluetooth BLE" as the tracking mode
  3. Tap the Bluetooth device configuration row
  4. A list of nearby BLE devices will appear — select yours and save
  5. When Magica detects the device nearby, it will start tracking automatically
ℹ️The BLE device must be powered on and within range. Magica checks signal strength (RSSI) every 3 seconds to determine if the device is near.

How do I configure an iBeacon for tracking in Magica?

iBeacons (BlueCharm, Kontakt.io, Estimote...) do not appear in the standard iOS BLE scan. Add them manually from the BLE configuration screen > "iBeacon" section > "Add iBeacon manually", entering the Proximity UUID you can find in the beacon manufacturer's app.

The steps:

  1. Go to the BLE device configuration screen (as above)
  2. Scroll down to the "iBeacon" section
  3. Tap "Add iBeacon manually"
  4. Enter the Proximity UUID of your beacon (you can find it in the beacon manufacturer's app)
  5. Optionally enter the Major and Minor values (leave empty to match any)
  6. Tap "Add", then select the beacon and save
ℹ️iBeacon monitoring works in the background and does not require Bluetooth to be enabled on your phone — it uses location services instead. Make sure you have granted "Always" location permission to Magica.

What does Magica's Live Activity show during a trip?

During an active trip, Magica displays a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island with four real-time metrics: distance traveled, driving time, current speed and estimated consumption.
